Once upon a time, I hosted a live television show covering the happenings and curiosities of my local area. It was called ‘This Week in Ottawa’ and was on cable television every Friday night from 6 to 7pm.
Oh the glamour, I hear you say!
Back then, at 20 years old, I thought the way to be taken seriously as a television host was to have big hair and a big shouldered- blazer - it was the 1980s!! It was great training for me to learn how to gather my thoughts quickly and try to ask the right questions. I had some mishaps, usually when I didn’t prepare. Once I interviewed a ballet dancer who had danced with Barishnikov - I had absolutely no idea what questions to ask and became a stammering mess, ending in dead air aka silence.
But I loved it. I loved the excitement of being live, the curiosity of learning about extraordinary people, and the joy of practicing the art of interviewing.
So I’m going back to my core joy by creating this series of interviews with people who inspire me. Loosely, that means people, especially women, who have reinvented themselves, or maybe it’s found themselves, in midlife.
Everyone and their dog has a podcast, so thanks for being here.
The word that keeps coming to me as I embark on this project is possibility.
Remember those days in your 20s when you knew you could do anything? The world of possibility was wide open, ready for us. But the pressure of achievement often overshadowed the joy of discovering who we were.
For me, my 50s has been a reawakening of that possibility but without the pressure of climbing a corporate ladder, reaching a significant salary milestone or proving myself.
This project, is all about me and the people I meet along the way.
The people I talk to inspire me with their enthusiasm for the businesses they are creating and the lives they are shaping. Many of these folks have reinvented themselves. I want to dig deeper into that, to learn more about how and why they started doing what they do. I want to dig deep into their founder mindset.
Meet Sherry Lukey, EFT Practitioner and Executive Life Coach
And now, for the first episode - an interview with my wonderful friend, Sherry Lukey.
I first met Sherry at a conference called EPIC. I will write more about that in the future (promise!) as it is community that has been a catalyst for changing my life for the better.
Sherry is an entrepreneur and an Executive Life Coach who uses Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) also known as ‘tapping’ - “a powerful tool for high-impact leaders seeking to optimize their personal and professional lives.”
I’d heard of tapping but honestly, I was a bit of a skeptic. Then I met Sherry and she invited me to learn more.
Breakthroughs Happen When You Least Expect Them
During our two-hour session we used tapping to go deeply into patterns of self sabotage and confidence issues that had held me back from truly allowing myself to flourish. Her Tap Into Power Method™️ is easy to learn and seems, at first, like a meditation, a simple solution that soothes the nervous system and helps you deal with those ‘fight or flight’ moments, difficult life events and deep ingrained habits around self-worth and . But it is this, combined with the deep discussion with Sherry, and the work she does to prepare you to be completely open and honest about what you want to accomplish that is a game changer.
Sherry came to this when age 48, she became chronically ill. A 10 minute walk was followed by a two hour sleep and Sherry found herself unable to cope. “There was just nothing left in my tank”, she said. Doctors could not provide a diagnosis and Sherry was left to accept that her previous life of vitality, was gone.
An entrepreneur at heart, Sherry knew she could figure this out and learn something from it. And that’s how she found Emotional Freedom Technique. Within months, she was feeling better and she knew that this was her path to health, and wealth.
Now, 10 years later, Sherry’s business is thriving. She works mainly with CEOs and Executives around the world, is a speaker and a coach.
And yes, we talked about menopause rage, HRT, parenting and a lot of other things that well, are to be expected during a Salty conversation.
The work of learning to respond positively, not react negatively
“My work is not for the faint of heart’ says Sherry, “I help you transform and be able to access your highest potential, then you are able to actually show up as your best self. You’ll be able to see things from whole new perspective and to understand what's a belief and what's actually fact and be able to respond instead of react.”
The goal? To fundamentally change the relationship with yourself to create more compassion and awareness of what you are actually capable of doing, to create the space to achieve your goals in the most positive way.
Sherry’s Three Books:
